Cardiff Out of the Woods Festival Bute Park
Sunday 22 August, 10.30am-4.30pm

FREE entrance and all activities free

This is the annual woodland event for all the family organised by Cardiff Parks Department.

It features woodland arts and crafts, nature trails, paddling your own coracle, free fun dog show and many other fun activities. Locally crafted products will also be available and as an added bonus, you can enjoy a leisurely home made treat at the Hardwood Café.

Free Fun Dog Show - judging from 12.30pm
No registration needed as its free so join in as many classes as you want - just go into the ring when the class you’re interested in is called.

Among all the out of the woods activities we will have our dog event all day with dog show itself in middle of the day - event will also include a few rescue stalls, animal welfare officer with Cardiff Council, SARDA and dog warden and his team who will also be microchipping for free (courtesy of Cardiff Council).

For those having stalls I will send you the details of how to get there and which entrance - its changed a little from last year

Plus please remember if going by car to the event that there are horrendous roadworks in the city that are clogging everything up so please allow enough time for this (even on a sunday as there may be other things going on in the city at the same time

Classes
1 Best puppy
2 Best rescue
3 Junior handler (under 16)
4 Prettiest bitch
5 Handsomest dog
6 Waggiest tail
7 Veteran (7 years +)
8 Dog most like its owner
9 Best 6 Legs
10 Best trick
11 Dog the Judge would most like to take home

(between 1st winners of other classes - so stick around till the end if you win anything in any of the other classes above)

There will be rosettes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each class and 1st only for Best in Show
If anyone wants to sponsor any of these classes they are quite welcome to - I can change the odd class to suit as well if needed

Also if anyone else wants a dog-related stall please ask - all stalls at the Out of the Woods event are not for profit so we will have to be in keeping with this idea.

Hi, could anybody give me some more information about this event? :)

It took place last year in the area to the left of the flower beds as you head towards town via the footbridge.  Penny can give you the name of the field, but it's all part of Bute Park. Last years was very interesting with lots of info from the Park Rangers and various stalls like Four Paws and Sarda. Sarda put on a display and Penny runs the dog show. There was enough to engage childrens interest and quite a few were trying out the coracle on it's little pool.  :)

Its opposite end of Corbett Road (where it crosses North Road)

Details they gave me were from Junction 32 of M4 area

Follow A470 Northern Avenue towards city centre

Continue along A470 into North Rd (over flyover)

Continue past Maindy Pool

Turn Left into Colum Road, which is next to overhead traffic lights

Continue along Colum Rd to the next set of traffic lights and turn Right
into Corbett Road

Continue along Corbett Road until final set of traffic lights

New entrance to Bute Park is directly in front of you across North Road

You'll be met by a member of staff at this entrance who will give
instructions where to go

And as an added bonus for the first time this year, and hopefully again in future years, the winner of the Best Rescue category will receive a trophy in addition to their rosette, given jointly between SARDA and Four Paws. As well as the winning pooch, its to celebrate every body who takes on a rescue dog from Four Paws and other rescues, and remind everybody that there are a lot of lovely success stories out there.

The plan is that SARDA's patron Tori James will award it, and we'll do a photo for some of the local papers too.
