Slide show of foster dogs at shows
« on: June 14, 2011, 17:29:48 PM »
 I'm sure this would have been looked at before, but I was just wondering if you've considered using a laptop for a computerised slide show at events. I know laptops don't all have fantastic battery life but even outdoors they would last a while, and indoors could hopefully be plugged in.

Perhaps a nicer way to look at the pictures of the dogs looking for homes....

I've created a mini slide show using Powerpoint - with 6 of the current dogs but it's too big to attach unfortunately. I've deleted all but 1 slide (and the title page) just so you can see what I'm talking about. Happy to send the fuller version (and to do a page for each dog) if anyone's interested.

I used Powerpoint rather than Photobucket to include names and some info about the dogs. I'm not sure if you need Powerpoint (or it's viewer mode) to look at it sorry.

Edited to add: or could it be added to the website as an overview of available dogs?

Sounds like a great idea Deirdre  Unfortunately my version won't open the file
However the same format of picture and words can be used in a google document - Kaz has done one for Safe-Ty so if you need any tips am sure she'll oblige  ;D. I had to get my daughter to help me and she said it was like doing powerpoint
Hope this is of some use

 Hi Julie,

I've been using computers in work for more than 20 years so have quite a lot of experience with the work type of stuff (word, spreadsheets, databases etc) but not much with presentations so have been having a look. Haven't a clue how computers work though, so no good at the techie stuff!

I could probably get hold of a laptop to use... but when we have done this in the past the screen is difficult to see outdoors...and we were worried that someone would walk off with it if we let it out of our sight for a second....

This would work well at Paws4Teas though - they're inside with constant attendance and if short of fosters can still show off the dogs  ;D
If taken to a show the laptop would need to be 'supervised' but that shouldn't prove too much trouble as normally people interested in our dogs will talk to a volunteer to gain more information.

Maybe someone could write a nice letter to I Pad to see if they would like to donate one  :hide: doesnt have glare on the screens like lap tops

it would be good (although a lot of money initially) if we could get a projector and screen, we could then run the slideshow through the laptop and onto the large screen, or if only used for indoor shows we could use a blank wall to project onto :)

I've heard the screens are good (not lucky enough to own one), but it would probably be even easier for someone to make off with an i-pad than a laptop.

A big old fashioned computer plugged in indoors might be a better (safer) bet..... :thinkin:

A blank wall indoors would be fab, lots of people could see them at once rather than crowding around a laptop/screen.
Might save some paper too....
