Wilf.....

Breed: Greyhound X Staffy ?
Age: 12 months (approx)
Dog friendly: Yes very
Cat Friendly: Yes, with a confident, dog aware cat
Child friendly: Yes, with older children due to size and strength
Fostered: Abercynon

Other: Looking for experienced home for a high energy dog.

Wilf is only staying with me until a foster home can be arranged and I have only known him overnight. So I can only report the following :-

He is a very playful lad who is very puppy like in his manner, he plays well then sleeps just like a puppy. Wilf has settled in quite well and has not shown any aggression to my pack of sometimes belligerent Collies. He has been told off a few times by the Collies but has not retaliated in any way.

He is almost fully house trained (only 2 wee accidents so far) He slept quietly downstairs all night (coz Chico my youngest Collie wouldn't let him upstairs).

He came for a walk this morning, and was a bit pully at first, but I let him off lead (in an enclosed area) and he was fine just happy to be running about with the pack. He will need more training but his recall was acceptable for now.

I would not recommend he be homed with cats or other smaller creatures as he has shown too much interest and became very excited when he saw my cats thought the window.

.

He is a big softy with bags of energy.

Further updates will be available when his proper fosterer gets to know him...Watch this space.

Please put in an application in the first instance if you are interested in Wilf. Approved applications will be home checked.

Details of our adoption procedures and adoption application form are here

He is actually bigger in real life than the photos show, about 26 inches at the shoulder.

Gorgeous!

Is he black or Russet?

Hopefully his excitable behaviour is due to his age and eagerness to be out of the pound.

I imagine he will find a permanent home very soon, he is a cracker!  In Love

And look at him putting on his bestest cutest face in that last pic x

I met a lady in the vet's today who might be interested in fostering for us.  She's got 2 greyhounds at the mo and would be interested in possibly fostering another.  I told her about Wilf, gave her a leaflet and she's going to have a look at the forum.    Fingers crossed.

Hi All
Just a quick update on Wilf - he has been with us for just over two weeks - I picked him up from the vet after his castration op. and it was clear he was going to be a lively visitor! The first week Wilf spent with us he was not allowed off the lead because of his stitches - so instead he ran circles around us in the house and garden. He is full of energy and will need to go to a family who can give him long walks every day. This should be easy as Wilf is a pleasure on and off the lead - he stays close by, waits for you to catch up and is quite responsive to being called. He has met a lot of dogs on and off lead and has been the perfect gent – he usually goes into a wild gallop hoping the dog will be up for some chasing. He has a wonderfully calm and gentle nature which brings out the best even in anxious and unfriendly dogs. He is always looking for someone to play with – he loves chasing after a ball and playing tug of war with my dog – but beware if he can’t find a tug of war partner he wonders around throwing it from side to side – I have the bruises to show it and a few broken plants and cups! Because Wilf is large and likes to play energetically, I would not rehome him with small children. He is very friendly with people – large and small, but doesn’t know his own strength or size.
He is completely house-broken – one small accident when he first arrived - but he has been great since then. Wilf will eat anything he can find and will actively seek food – and I mean actively – he can open most doors and has managed to get into a top cupboard to steal a tasty morsel. But this means he is also very easy to train and eager to please. Wilf has lived beside three cats that regularly seem to tease him and run away – while he will chase the cats when they run, he has been known to give a kiss or two when supervised face to face with them – so I think he could happily be rehomed with a confident, dog aware cat. He has lived with a female dog and is playful, but not over-dominant. He loves to be around people and would love nothing more than to be curled up beside you on the couch...
Wilf would need to be re homed with people who are active and somewhat experienced dog owners. He will need some training as he is a young, boisterous, large dog. In return he will make a very loyal and fun companion. He is a pleasure to be with.
Wilf is:
Dog friendly: Yes
People friendly: Yes
Child Friendly: Yes (but see above)
Cat friendly: Yes (but see above)
House-trained: Yes
